How to use these resources

A complete set of content, training activities and assessment items is provided for each unit of competency in this area. These materials can be used separately for instructional purposes, or as a complete training program or learning resource for staff.

Structure

The Content menu provides access to independent topics by section. Each section has an introduction, a summary, a self-check activity and a bibliography that relates to the section as a whole.

A section normally reflects an element of competency as described in the competency statement. In some cases, however, sections and topics are differently ordered to aid instructional flow. In this way, the teacher or trainer can access the associated resources without needing to work through the content.

The Resources menu (below the Content menu) provides quick access to associated resources by type of resources. These may include activities in print or interactive formats, audio/visual elements, assessment items, glossary entries and course readings.

All resources except the assessment items can also be accessed through links within the learning content.

Use

Learners can work through the sections and topics in the order presented or choose specific topics to meet a learning need.

Teachers and trainers can select and present a section, topic, or topic cluster as an independent resource — with or without associated resources.

If the materials are being used as independent resources, please note the following suggestions for their presentation:

• Resources linked within the body of content, such as activities and readings, should be provided with the topic, or reference to these removed.
• Any related bibliography entries should be provided with the topic.

Assessments and Activities

Activities and assessment items can be used as provided or adapted to a format more suited to the learners and their learning environment.

Assessment resources are suggested samples only for use by teachers and workplace trainers. Assessment items are not linked to topic pages.
