Paula La Rosa
Age: 39 years
Position: Deputy Director
Organisation: Centacare Townsville
Paula’s strong passion and commitment for the well-being of others originally attracted her to undertake studies in a Bachelor of Social Work degree. She applied for a position with Centacare in 2000 because of her interest to work in a multi-skilled organisation offering a number of different counselling and support services to the community.
Paula joined Centacare as a counsellor working with children who had been harmed by their careprovider and has been promoted to Team Leader, Assistant to Director (Client Services) and more recently Deputy Director.
Paula is currently working towards an MBA in Human Resources; which she finds useful for her management and leadership responsibilities.
Working in management for Centacare means Paula has a rewarding career, enabling her to make a difference through the policy input and strategic direction of a large welfare organization, including the marketing and promotion of the agency.
Having a management role also provides Paula with leadership and management experience, including guiding and supporting professional practice and performance.
Centacare has provided many professional and personal development opportunities and Paula has undertaken general management and leadership training since joining the company.
Paula believes a job where she is required to constantly think of the well being of others is something that drives and inspires her and sees her job as a privilege.
‘I know that what I do every day matters to someone. I have learnt so much from those that I work with.’
