Secondary training

The senior secondary sector offers opportunities for young people of school age to gain experience and entry-level qualifications into many career areas. The most common way for this to occur in the community services sector is through a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship. These are designed primarily for year 11 and 12 students, with training and work factored into the students timetable to provide a certificate qualification in addition to the Senior Certificate. School-based apprenticeships and traineeships vary from one to three years.

Depending on local availability, generic senior secondary training pathways into the community services sector may include:

• Certificate I in Work Preparation (Community Services)
• Certificate II in Community Services Work, and
• School-based Traineeship: Community Services Worker.
