Emergency Relief Handbook roundtable in Brisbane
ACOSS is updating the Emergency Relief (ER) Handbook. This is a resource for organisations involved in the provision of emergency relief services. It includes general information about ER services and government funding, plus specific resources for workers (including volunteers) and managers. The Handbook was last produced in 2003 and is available on the ACOSS website.
In order to update the Handbook, ACOSS is consulting with ER providers across the country. The consultation process comprises two elements: an online ER provider survey and face-to-face roundtables in each capital city and select regional locations. The provider survey comprises the key format for consulting with the sector broadly. Its purpose is to gather demographic and institutional information about ER providers across the country, including service limitations, changes to the sector and areas of growing and unmet need. The survey can be accessed at: www.surveymonkey.com/s/erhandbook_provider_survey

This includes organisations who are specifically funded for ER (e.g. from Commonwealth or State governments) as well as those who are not. Participants may include managers, volunteer or staff coordinators, or frontline workers. Please send one representative per organisation (this may be from a single agency or from an organisation delivering services across a range of locations).
ACOSS will finish the Handbook at the end of 2010; and anticipate the Handbook will be released in the first half of 2011.
